Final exam part 3

Creating depth: the photographer angled the camera in a way that shows the length of the leaf tunnel. By doing so we get a sense of how far back this goes. To add to the sense of depth the photographer positioned a person to the bottom right corner to let us compare the size of the person to the size of the tunnel.

Avoiding mergers: the photographer took this photo at the time the olympian was in that exact spot to avoid her merging with the audience. If the olympian were in front of the audience at the time the photographer shot the picture the photograph might have looked busy and messy. Avoiding mergers helps us focus on the main part of the picture, in this case, the olympian.

Background: the photographer blurred the background of this picture to help focus on the soldier. By doing so the photographer makes the soldiers facial expression the main focus of the picture. If the background were not blurred it may have been difficult to focus on the soldier and understand what the photographer is trying to say with this photo. 

Viewpoint: this picture has a unique perspective in that it shows us our President in a way we rarely see him. This has a deeper more personal feel to it, by the expression on his face, his composition and the sun in the background we see a meaningful individual instead of a politician. If the photographer had taken a more traditional approach to a presidential portrait, front facing, looking friendly, perhaps in front of an American flag, we might have thought it nice but otherwise have been indifferent towards it, in this picture we really see the leader of a nation.

Sunday morning Reggie the rhinoceros is flying over Zambia, Africa on his way back to an animal reservation. Late Thursday evening of last week "Reggie the Rhinoceros" wandered off of an animal reservation and walked over 20 miles to a bus station in Zambia, not wanting to have to put the animal down, wildlife activists petitioned the government to fund a helicopter ride to for Reggie (along with plenty of tranquilizers) to get him back home safely.

Captured is President of the United States Barrack Obama arguing with Governor of Illinois outside of an airport in Houston, Texas. A small, slightly humorous, argument broke out between the two after realizing they were taken to the wrong state, it is unclear who was really at fault but we can see who thinks who is to blame for the travel mishap. 

Jonathan Johnson riding a horse in full costume next to remarkably realistic light show, Saturday evening, Civil War reenactment, Somerset, Texas. History buff Jonathan Johnson was slightly disappointed when he realized so few people shared his passion for the events of the Civil War, he and some friends(with permission from the city and some help from a local school drama team) recreated a scene from the Civil War hoping to rekindle peoples interest in our past and bring history back to life.

 Planning ahead:

I would like to shoot a few environmental portraits, (teachers in the classroom, athletes in the gym or at the football or soccer fields/tennis court) To make these shots successful I'll try to be as unobtrusive as possible, figure out what settings I'll be using beforehand, use the rules of photography.

Quick Write: Write about a time when you were brave

One time I was brave was when I was left home alone during a huge storm. I was already afraid of thunder and lightning, and the neighbors dog howling didn't help. Anyway, I was sitting in my room watching a movie huddled up in a blanket when I heard a loud noise coming from the washing machine . It sounded like something was trying to get out of it, it was hitting the sides of it, scratching. I decided that it was either face the rain and lightning and thunder or take back my house from this washing machine monster. As I was stepping outside to face the elements I remembered something, my favorite jeans were in the washing machine. My poor jeans, they must be terrified, I thought. So I put on a brave face and went back to the washing machine, opened the lid, and came face to face with the most hideous, the most vicious, cockroach in the world. I got my shoe and gave the loudest battle cry I could manage and crushed the monster to death. I saved my jeans, took back my house, and found my bravery.

I don't get stressed, i guess my advice is do whatever relaxes you for a while then deal with whatever is stressing you out.

I thought these pictures were beautiful and powerful. I wonder if the photographer purposely took these photos in black and white so that the composition of the animal and the scenery could speak for itself.
